On the ThoroughCare Dashboard, search for the patient who is going to be using the Dexcom by selecting the search bar at the top of the page. Users can search by patient First Name, Last Name, or EHR ID number.
NOTE: If the patient doesn't already exist in ThoroughCare, you must create a new patient before you can add the device.
On the Patient Search Results screen, select the target patient by clicking their name, EHR ID, or "View" button under the "Actions" column.
From the Patient View Page, select the "Devices" tab located under the patient information. Then, click on the “Add a Device” button.
Next, a pop-up should appear labeled “Add a new device”. Select the device type dropdown and select “Continuous Glucose Monitor” under the “Dexcom” header.
Before saving, make sure that the appropriate checkboxes are checked (both will be checked by default). Select the blue “Save” button.
Once the save button is selected, a new tab should appear to log into Dexcom with the patient’s Dexcom credentials. If the patient does not yet have a Dexcom account, select the Create account option at the bottom of the page and follow the steps to set up their account.
If the patient already has a Dexcom account, enter the patient’s credentials and select the “Log in” button.
Note: If the patient created and verified their account with a mobile phone number, select the green-linked “use it to log in” below the “Email or username” box. Once selected, it will change the “Email or username” box to a “Mobile number” box where the phone number associated with the patient’s account can be entered.
After these steps, the next screen will ask for the patient’s permission to “Disclose and Authorize ThoroughCare’s Remote Patient Monitoring” to access the Dexcom account. Read this agreement over and once finished, at the bottom of the agreement, select the “on your own behalf” option if the patient is completing the agreement. Otherwise, select the “on behalf of another individual as their personal representative” option. Complete the information that follows for the selected option, then select “Authorize”.
The agreement screen should then automatically close, and you will be taken back to ThoroughCare. As long as the patient can see their Dexcom readings on their display device, i.e., smartphone, then ThoroughCare will receive the readings as well.
Note: ThoroughCare pulls the patient’s Dexcom readings from their “retrospective API”, an API that is delayed by an hour. This means that Dexcom readings shown in ThoroughCare will follow that same one-hour delay.
