Implementing Healthwise
To turn on Healthwise for your practice, you'll first need to contact your ThoroughCare account representative. They will enable the practice option, which in turn will display a new user role available to practice administrators. The role is titled "Health Education" and is available under the "Licenses" section in the "Edit User" modal. Grant this role to users who require access to Healthwise.
Navigating to Healthwise
Step 1: Begin by logging into ThoroughCare. When there is no patient in focus, users may click on the ‘i’ icon from the dashboard or any worklist, and select “Patient Education” to launch the Healthwise Coach application. This is useful for doing research not connected to a patient.
When there is a patient in focus you will click on the “Patient Actions” menu and choose “Education”. This will allow you to track the education sent to a patient in their record.
Step 2: The Healthwise Coach application will open in a new browser tab. If a patient was in focus, you will see their information in the orange box at the top of the application. You can navigate to content using a keyword in the search box (type keyword and hit enter) or click the Care Collections tab for specific libraries of content.
Note: Please only use one instance of Healthwise at a time. It is not advisable to have multiple Healthwise tabs open at once.
Step 3: Add content to the Educational Materials Basket by using the quick add button (+) or clicking the “Add to Basket” button (available after clicking into the document for review).
To add content in another language, look for the globe icon next to the title and select the desired language before adding it to the basket.
Step 4: Click on the button labeled “Send Materials” in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. It should now be green and show the number of items in the basket.
Step 5: Review the items in the “Educational Materials Basket”.
To send materials electronically (via email) use the instructions below.
Best Practices for Electronic Fulfillment:
Ask for permission to send the materials via email.
Inform patient what the “from:” email address is
Limit fulfillment items to 2-3 documents
Note: the patient may need to check their junk/spam folder
If possible, walk through the process on the phone
Ask the patient to rate the content after they engage with it using the scale at the bottom of the screen
Review any barriers to any prior unviewed fulfillments
Note that the user who sends educational material to the patient will be the one to receive an email notification that the patient has viewed the content
To print materials use the instructions below:
A PDF document opens in a new tab and can be saved to your desktop or printed from a local printer.
Best Practices for Print Fulfillment:
Care Support Pages are optimized for print; they are shorter, more concise, and look better when printed
Limit fulfillment items to 2-3 documents
Don’t save and/or reuse PDFs that have been previously saved. Healthwise content is constantly being updated and data isn’t tracked with PDFs.
Step 7: When you are done with a Healthwise session, always click the red “Close” button. After clicking the close button, you can go back to the ThoroughCare application.
Documentation in ThoroughCare
Information about what education was sent to a patient can be found in the Documents tab on the patient’s landing page within ThoroughCare. If content was sent electronically, you will also be able to see the status of the fulfillment in the “Status” column. You can click the “View” button to open a PDF of the document sent.
This historical data is also available in Healthwise by clicking the “Review Activity” button with the patient in focus.
The list will show the dates and titles of fulfillments sent to the member.
The Patient Experience - Electronic Fulfillments
Step 1: The patient receives an email and clicks the link in the email labeled “Access Your Health Message Center Here”.
Step 2: The patient will then be prompted to enter their last name and date of birth and should then click the “Login” button to access the Healthwise message center.
Step 3: The first time the patient enters the message center they will need to agree to the Terms of Use by checking the box and clicking the “Accept” button.
Step 4: Once in the message center the patients will click on the materials to view them.
Note: The Healthwise message center works great on mobile devices too. So, feel free to encourage patients to check their email on their phone or tablet.
At the footer of every article and video within the message center is an optional rating scale where the patient can provide feedback on the content. Please encourage the patient to provide feedback if they can.
For further assistance, click the ‘i’ icon in the top right corner of your ThoroughCare screen to access additional articles and training videos, submit ideas, or contact ThoroughCare Support.
