Withings Watch Integration
ThoroughCare now integrates with the Withings Watch devices, ScanWatch Light and ScanWatch 2, enabling seamless, passive collection of patient vitals directly from the wearable device. These Bluetooth-enabled wearable devices automatically capture and transmit vital measurements like steps, distance, active energy burned, sleep duration and awake count, providing care team members with continuous insight into a patient’s daily activity levels and health trends between visits.
The following are benefits of incorporating the Withings watch when monitoring a patient’s health:
Improve Care Management
Gain a clearer picture of patient activity and behavioral patterns over time, enabling more informed, data-driven care plan adjustments.
Better Patient Outcomes
By tracking these vitals more closely, care managers can identify early warning signs of declining health, intervene proactively before issues escalate and tailor recommendations to each patient’s activity and sleep patterns.
Adding the Device
Start first by reaching the “Add a new Device” modal as seen below.
Once here, select either of the Withings watch options – “ScanWatch Light” or “ScanWatch 2” – from the “Device Type” dropdown. For this example, we will select the “ScanWatch Light” option.
Upon selecting the device, input the watch’s device ID in the “Device ID” textbox. From here, users may check both of the checkboxes if they apply to them.
It is important to note that the patient must have at least one height and one weight reading, as well as a unique email address, before the Withings device can be added. This information can be verified for the patient by navigating to the patient “Vitals” dropdown in the “Clinical Data” tab as seen in the screenshot below.
Withings App Setup
Once the watch has been added to the patient in ThoroughCare, the patient may download and navigate to the Withings App, signing into the app using the email address.
Please note that password setup is not necessary. Instead, a verification code will be sent to the email address for input as seen in the screenshot below.
The patient will then be guided through the account setup and profile confirmation steps as seen in the screenshots below.
Upon completing the profile confirmation steps, the patient will be directed to the main dashboard page of the Withings App.
Before continuing on to the watch installation steps of the device setup, please note that Bluetooth access must be granted in order to connect the device. This can be granted in the patient’s Settings App on their phone by navigating to the Withings App and enabling the “Bluetooth” toggle as seen below.
Withings Watch Installation
With Bluetooth access enabled, the patient is ready to install the watch on the app. Navigating to the “Add” button in the upper right hand corner of the app’s dashboard will open the Products screen, where the user can select the product they’d like to set up.
Clicking on the “Watches” product will then provide several watch selection options – for this example, we’ll select the “ScanWatch Light”.
Once the “ScanWatch Light” option is selected, click on the “Install” button to be guided through the installation process.
To begin the watch pairing process, press the side button on the device to wake up the watch. Upon doing so, “SETUP” will be displayed on the watch as seen below.
A new message will appear on the Withings App, notifying the patient that the watch has been detected. To pair the watch to the phone via Bluetooth, click the “Pair” button on the screen.
Please note that a code on the watch’s screen may need to be entered on the following pop up.
After entering the code, the screen on the Withings App will change to notify that a successful connection to the watch has been made.
On the next screen, verify that the watch’s hands are all pointing up – with the minute and hour hands positioned at noon. This will allow the watch to automatically adjust to the correct time. If the time on the watch is not correct, tap “Try Again” to retry.
After confirming the watch displays the correct time, the screen will transition to a loading page titled “Configuring your ScanWatch Light…” before moving on to the confirmation screen upon successful pairing.
How Your Data Reaches Your Care Team
Once the watch is paired, it will begin automatically syncing vital measurements to the Withings app via Bluetooth throughout the patient’s day. From there, this data flows directly into ThoroughCare, where it can be found in the Vitals section of the Clinical Data tab, giving care team members visibility into:
Steps
Distance
Active Energy Burned
Sleep Duration
Awake Count
Please note that the ScanWatch does not have a GPS. Instead, Withings estimates distance by multiplying step count by an estimated stride length, calibrated using the height provided at account creation. As a result, the distance metric is a step-based estimate rather than a precise measurement – indoor movement may show small, seemingly inconsistent distances (e.g., 13 ft, 48 ft), and the figure will not match a mapped or GPS-tracked route.
With this data readily available, care teams can continue to monitor patient activity and wellness trends over time, all without requiring any additional effort from the patient beyond simply wearing the device. This seamless flow of information supports more informed, proactive care — helping ensure that the Withings Watch integration adds real, ongoing value to the patient's care journey.
