ThoroughCare has introduced the ability to connect a user's Google Calendar with the ThoroughCare Calendar. This integration is bidirectional, so not only will your Google Calendar events appear on the ThoroughCare Calendar, but your events from ThoroughCare will also appear on your Google Calendar.
Please note the following limitations:
Only single events will be synced - recurring events will not appear across apps.
Only events in ThoroughCare will sync to Google - patient interactions do not sync at this time.
How to Connect to Google Calendar
To sync your Google Calendar to the ThoroughCare Calendar, navigate to the calendar. Next to the "+ Event" button, there will be a new button titled "Connect Calendar".
After selecting the "Sync Calendar" button, a pop-up window will appear, prompting the user to select their desired Google account. The user must continue through the Google prompts and allow Google to access their data. Once this is done, users should be redirected back to ThoroughCare with a new prompt appearing that allows for selecting an available Google Calendar to sync.
After selecting the desired Google Calendar, users will be asked whether they want to sync their calendar across all practices.
Once the user selects their calendar preference, a green message will appear prompting the user to refresh the page.
After refreshing, the user's single Google events will appear in the ThoroughCare calendar. Note: Only single events will sync to ThoroughCare at this time. Any other type of Google Calendar option will not sync to ThoroughCare.
Provided below is a comparison of two weeks' worth of events in Google Calendar and the ThoroughCare calendar. Pay close attention to the titles of the events to understand which events do and don't sync across calendars.
The two images above show the first two weeks. At the time of syncing the calendar, it was after 1 pm on Wednesday, July 16th. Because of this, only single events after the time of syncing appeared on the calendar. Please note that the recurring events did not sync, as they are not supported at this time.
The two images above show the second two weeks. The images again show that the single events have properly synced to ThoroughCare; however, the daily and weekly recurring events did not.
How to Disconnect Google Calendar
After the ThoroughCare calendar has been connected to Google, the 'Connect Calendar' button above the ThoroughCare calendar will change to say 'Disconnect Calendar'.
To disconnect the Google Calendar, simply select this button. The following pop-up will appear:
Select 'Confirm', and the calendars will be disconnected. The previously synced events will not be removed from either the Google Calendar or the ThoroughCare Calendar. Calendars may be reconnected at any time.
Functionality Overview
Listed below are the different functionalities users can expect to see when using the integration, depending on whether the user synced their Google calendar across practices or not.
If the user has chosen NOT to sync the calendar across practices, then:
Google Events will appear only in the practice the user synced with.
If the user navigates to another practice, the Google Calendar events will not appear there, and the user will see the same 'Connect Calendar' option available.
If the user creates a single event on the synced ThoroughCare practice and checks their Google calendar after refreshing, the user will see the ThoroughCare event in Google.
If the user creates a single event on a different practice that is not synced, and checks their Google calendar after refreshing, the user will not see the ThoroughCare event in Google.
If the user creates a single event in Google, the user will see the event reflected in the single synced ThoroughCare practice after refreshing.
If the user deletes a single event from Google Calendar, it is also deleted from the ThoroughCare calendar, regardless of where it was created.
If the user deletes a single event from the ThoroughCare calendar, it is also deleted from the Google calendar, regardless of where it was created.
If the user disconnects the Google Calendar from ThoroughCare, the synced events will remain on both calendars unless deleted by the user.
If the user has chosen to sync the calendar across practices, then:
Google events will appear in all practices to which the user has access.
If the user navigates to another practice, the Google Calendar events will appear there, and the user will see a 'Disconnect Calendar' option available.
If the user creates a single event on any ThoroughCare practice they have access to and checks their Google calendar after refreshing, the user will see the ThoroughCare event in Google, as well as on all ThoroughCare practices that the user has access to.
If the user creates a single event in Google, the user will see the event reflected on all ThoroughCare practices that the user has access to.
